I’m three issues into Skottie Young’s new comic THE ME YOU LOVE IN THE DARK and I’m emotional on many levels. This is usually what Skottie’s writing does to me.

Most comics you can read and take in the artwork as you go. That’s not the case, at least for me, when I read an original work by Skottie. I have to re-read and investigate each page a couple of times. The magic in his writing is best read between the lines and is brought to life, perfectly, by Jorge Corona’s art.

From the the start of the book to the end of issue three, the current issue in shops now, we meet a character that we’ve all been and may even still be, on many levels. Ro is every creative mind and hopeful soul working to be seen but never really being understood. The layers are so good!

And like most of us, she finds solace in the quiet of the dark. However this tale takes that solace a step further and deeper into the dark when the dark starts to talk back and, perhaps finds solace in Ro.

If you’re not familiar with Skottie’s work then I highly recommend this current book. I also recommend his last team-up with Jorge Corona, MIDDLEWEST. While you’re at it check out, I HATE FAIRYLAND and BULLY WARS.

Ok, read everything you possibly can by him. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed, you’ll be inspired. Who couldn’t use a little inspiration? I know I can, daily.
